01 / The Challenge & Problem
Sober communities lack dedicated spaces to connect without the pressure of alcohol-centric environments. The challenge was building a highly interactive, real-time social networking and dating app that guarantees extreme privacy, safety, and instant message delivery.
02 / Discovery & Research
Our research revealed that sober app users prioritize profile verification and strict community safety rules. Technically, we discovered that standard HTTP polling caused massive server loads and rapid battery drain, requiring a lightweight, persistent connection paradigm.
03 / Construction & Development
We engineered the client in React Native and Expo, utilizing SQLite for offline message storage. On the server, we developed a custom NestJS WebSocket adapter, integrating Redis to broker active user sessions. To comply with HIPAA-like security needs, all message payloads are encrypted end-to-end.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS
RESULTS RECORDED
Delivered in 8 weeks, scaling to over 100k active sober members, maintaining a 99.9% uptime rate, and achieving a 50ms average message latency rate.
